Overview - Chiba
Located on the east side of Tokyo Bay, Chiba is the capital of and largest city by population in Chiba Prefecture. It has approximately 985,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2024. The Kanto Region comprised 43,653,441 residents as of the 2020 Statistics Bureau of Japan estimate.
Chiba's rapid transit network consists of two suspended monorail light metro services. It also has a commuter rail line. This is in addition to all of the JR and private railways which feed into the city.

The Chiba Urban Monorail consists of two suspended monorail light metro lines and services on a northeast-southwest alignment. It runs from Chibaminato in the southwest to Kenchōmae in the northeast and Chishirodai in the east, serving 18 stations. Formally, the section from Chibaminato to Kenchōmae is Line 1 and the section from Chiba to Chishirodai is Line 2, but all trains continue to Chibaminato.
The Chiba Urban Monorail was opened in March 1988 and the last extension to the line was to Kenchōmae in March 1999.
Kominato Railway (小湊鐵道)
Kominato Line (小湊鉄道線)
The Kominato Line is a commuter rail line on a northwest-southeast alignment. It runs from Goi in the northwest to Kazusa-Nakano in the southeast, serving 18 stations.
The Kominato Line was opened in May 1925 and the last expansion to the line was the opening of Kōfūdai in December 1976.
