Overview - Funabashi
Located on the north side of Tokyo Bay and anchoring the western part of the former Shimōsa Province, which comprises the northern portion of Chiba Prefecture, Funabashi is the second largest city by population in Chiba, and acts as the western hub for the region, which also includes cities such as Ichikawa, Matsudo, Kashiwa, Yachiyo, and Nagareyama. It has approximately 644,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2020. The Kanto Region comprised 43,653,441 residents as of the 2020 Statistics Bureau of Japan estimate.
The Shimōsa Region's rapid transit network consists of two metro services (one of which is the Tokyo Metro Tõzai Line), two people mover lines, and an urban mainline rail line. This is in addition to all of the JR and private railways which feed into the cities.
Tōyō Rapid Railway (東葉高速鉄道)
Opened 1996, the Tōyō Rapid Railway consists of a metro service that serves the cities of Funabashi and Yachiyo.
Tōyō Rapid Railway Line (東葉高速鉄道線)
The Tōyō Rapid Railway Line is a metro line on an east-west alignment. It runs from Nishi-funabashi in the west with through service to the Tokyo Metro Tōzai Line to Tōyō-katsutadai in the east, serving 9 stations.
The Tōyō Rapid Railway Line was opened in April 1996.
Ryūtetsu (流鉄)
Opened 1916, Ryūtetsu consists of an urban mainline rail service that serves the cities of Matsudo and Nagareyama.
Ryūtetsu Nagareyama Line (流鉄流山線)
The Ryūtetsu Nagareyama Line is an urban mainline rail line on a north-south alignment. It runs from Mabashi in the south to Nagareyama in the north, serving 6 stations.
The Ryūtetsu Nagareyama Line was opened in March 1916 as a light railway and the last expansion was the opening of Kōya in February 1961.
Maihama Resort Line
Opened 2001, the Maihama Resort Line consists of a straddle beam monorail people mover service that serves the Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu.
Disney Resort Line (ディズニーリゾートライン)
The Disney Resort Line is a straddle beam monorail people mover line on a loop alignment, serving 4 stations in a counterclockwise loop.
The Disney Resort Line was opened in July 2001.
Yamaman (山万)
Opened 1982, the Yamaman network consists of an automated guideway transit people mover service that serves the Yūkarigaoka development in Sakura.
Yamaman Yūkarigaoka Line (山万ユーカリが丘線)
The Yamaman Yūkarigaoka Line is an automated guideway transit people mover line on a north-south alignment, serving 6 stations of which 3 are on a counterclockwise loop.
The Yamaman Yūkarigaoka Line was opened in November 1982 and the last extension was from Chūgakkō to Kōen via Ino in September 1983.
