Overview - Fujisawa-Kamakura

Located in the eastern part of the Shōnan Region and including the famous island of Enoshima, Fujisawa is the fourth largest city by population in Kanagawa. It has approximately 439,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2021. Directly to its east, Kamakura is the former capital of Japan. It has approximately 173,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2020. The Kanto Region comprised 43,653,441 residents as of the 2020 Statistics Bureau of Japan estimate.

Fujisawa and Kamakura's rapid transit network consists of a suspended monorail light metro line and a light rail line. This is in addition to all of the JR and private railways which feed into the cities.

Shōnan Monorail (湘南モノレール)

Enoshima Line (江の島線)

The Shōnan Monorail Enoshima Line is a suspended monorail light metro line on a northeast-southwest alignment. It runs from Ōfuna in the northeast to Shōnan-Enoshima in the southwest, serving 8 stations.

The Shōnan Monorail Enoshima Line was opened in March 1970 and the last extension to the line was to Shōnan-Enoshima in July 1971.

The Enoshima Electric Railway, also known by its abbreviation of Enoden, is a light rail line on a U-shaped alignment. It runs from Fujisawa in the northwest to Kamakura in the northeast, serving 15 stations.

The Enoshima Electric Railway was opened in November 1900 and the last expansion to the line was the opening of Ishigami in September 1920.
