Overview - San Juan

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, San Juan is the capital and the largest city by population in Puerto Rico. It has approximately 335,000 inhabitants in the city proper as of 2023. The San Juan metropolitan area (San Juan-Bayamón-Caguas) comprised 2,035,733 residents as of the 2023 US Census Bureau Estimate.


San Juan's rapid transit network consists of a single metro service. There is also a BRT-Lite line in Old San Juan along Calle Del Tren that is not covered on this website.

Tren Urbano

Opened December 2004, the Tren Urbano consists of a single metro service that serves the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico and the western suburbs.

Tren Urbano

The Tren Urbano is a metro service with a horizontally flipped L shaped alignment. It runs from Bayamón in the west to Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, San Juan, serving 16 stations.


The Tren Urbano was opened in December 2004. The Tren Urbano is owned by La Autoridad de Transporte Integrado (ATI).
